Many times it is our commitment to our employees that keep us away from being active. But also, our job, which usually consists of long sitting hours, is a reason why we need to be active more than others. Therefore, if you are looking for ways to mix between being active and giving your best at work, you need to start being active at the office. Here are 5 ways to stay active even with a full-time job.

1- Stretch

Stretching is essential to wake your muscles that have been still for the past few hours. You can desk at your desk or go out of the office for a 10 minutes break and a stretch. It is recommended to stand up every 30 minutes to stretch out the chest and extend the whole spine so the hunched position caused by sitting, can be reversed. Neck and back pain will be reduced and your energy levels will increase.

2- Get moving at lunchtime

Lunchtime is the break you need to maintain your wellbeing and your mental health when you are surrounded by the stress of work. Take it as an opportunity to be active. Do not eat at your desk or sitting down, but instead get up and be active for as much as you can (while waiting for the microwave to heat your food or if you are eating a sandwich). When you finish eating go outside (on the balcony or out of the office) to change scenery and walk for few minutes. You can jog up and down your building’s stairs to get your blood pumping.

3- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes

If your work environment allows, wear clothes and shoes that are comfortable. This will motivate you to be active as per your studies. Also, it will allow you to do movements easier, such as taking the stairs. If your company won’t allow a sporty outfit, you can still make some changes to your outfit to keep it comfortable. Switch to comfortable shoes instead of heels or formal shoes that are tight. You can also pick a suit with movable and breathable fabric.

4- Track your steps

Tracking your step can be a good way to motivate you to stay active. If you set a daily steps goal, you will feel like you have to achieve it in any way. This is why you could find so many people wearing a Fitbit or similar smart watches. Set a goal that is achievable and beneficial for you, and make sure that you come closer every day to that goal. A good way to start is to put an easy to achieve goal and increase it every week so you can be more active. You can also use applications that track steps, such as StepChain.

5- Start an office fitness challenge

Involving your co-workers in a fitness challenge is a great way to become happily active. Studies have proven that it is easier to achieve a goal when you are doing it in a group and the right support network to motivate you and encourage you.
