Winter is usually about cold weather that forces you to stay inside and feel lazy. You are more likely to want to skip your workouts, cozy up on the sofa watching movies and eating non-stop. While this is tempting, there are no benefits to sabotaging your fitness goals because of a cold. In case you are wondering, “how can I be active when it is cold outside and you do not feel like moving?” we bring you some answers. In this article, you will find 5 ways to stay active this winter.

1- Be active during daylight hours

During the day, the temperature is most likely to be warmer than other times of the day. Work out in the morning or during your lunch break (if you have a long one). This way you will be more motivated to start and accomplish your routine. You can also go outside during that time of the day, where the sun is usually out and warm. Make sure that you have enough clothes on to avoid catching a cold while sweating.

2- Play with your pets or kids

The good thing about playing with kids or pets is that you get to do lots of movements while having fun, and there is a chance that you will be doing so for hours without feeling exhausted. You can play with them indoors if possible. In case you do not have kids, or a pet, you can play with your friends’ children or your cousins. This way you will not only have fun with them, and make them like you more, but you will be active and burning calories at the same time.

3- Walk in the mall

Mall visits are similar to playing with kids or pets, they allow you to be active while having fun or doing something you love. During winter, malls are usually decorated especially during the time of Christmas, which means you have more reasons to visit. Once you enter the mall, specify the number of steps you’d like to achieve before leaving. Keep an eye on your fitness watch or application (such as StepChain) to track the number of steps you are scoring.

4- Volunteer in opportunities that requires physical activities

Volunteering can do you and the community good. If you volunteer in activities that require physical activities such as animal shelters or campaigns to help people in need, there is a chance you will be moving a lot. This will help you be active during these days.

5- Workout at home

Home workouts are great during the days when you do not want to go out. If you already have a workout plan, continue doing it. You can also create your plan with StepChain. In the workout section of the app, you can choose the trainer that suits you, enter your data and chose the number of times you want to work out per week. Then you will have a workout plan tailored for you. Working out at home can keep you active and warm inside your house.
